SIRSY BIO |
|
|
S I R S Y (pronounced
"sir - see"):
Fiery, sultry, & soulful
indie pop that rocks!
. |
 |
"LITTLE BAND... BIG
SOUND!"
--The
Boston Globe (Boston, MA).
"Krahmer can sing,
scream, blow flute, drum, & tease, and she
does them all REALLY well. Libutti plays
everything else (he even uses his feet!) ... GO
SEE SIRSY!"
--The Village Voice (NYC).
"Radio friendly, and
eye-friendly, but the material is actually
REALLY good. Like pop songs used to be before
MTV".
--Indie Sounds
NY (NYC). |
|
SIRSY is fronted by the "charismatic Melanie Krahmer" who reviewers say has a
"stunning voice capable of a lion's roar and a floaty whisper". Krahmer is also the band's
drummer, playing a full drum kit while STANDING UP, bass parts with her drum stick, and
the occasional Ian Anderson-esque flute solo (sometimes playing drums, flute, and bass all
at once). Not to be outdone, guitarist Rich Libutti also plays bass parts with his feet and
even the occasional snare part with his feet (during Krahmer's flute solos). Everything is
played live. Despite the multi-tasking on stage with
this unique set up, the duo manages to have a "dynamic stage presence and chemistry" that has
audiences and critics raving. The Boston Globe says "Little band, BIG sound!" and New York's
City's Village Voice urges readers to "Go see sirsy!".
Reviewers say, SIRSY has written
an "arsenal of well-crafted, ear catching, lyrically smart and musically sound songs filled with
hooks and levels of meaning".
Playing over 250 shows per year, SIRSY has
shared the stage with: Maroon5, Lifehouse,
Collective Soul, Blues Traveler, Cheap
Trick, Vertical Horizon, Fuel, and many more.
SIRSY currently tours along the east coast and
throughout the Mid-West. And, YES... this
IS their day job.

What is your name? Melanie Krahmer
Where were you born and where have you lived?
I was born in Pattersonville, NY (a small town, where cows are
spotted frequently but people are a bit scarce). I now live in
Albany, NY.
What's your sign? Cancer
What's your family background? I have a really large
and very supportive family... they rock... (hi mom &
dad!). My sis Michelle sorta named the band. You see, when we were little and learning to talk
she said the word "sister" like "sirsy" (which
then became my nickname).
Favorite color(s): Black
Favorite Food(s): I'm vegetarian (ovo-lacto and I
only eat cheese made without animal rennet) so it's sometimes tough
to eat out. But I
LOVE food. Thai, Indian, Japanese & my mom's Italian are my
favorites... I also LOVE pancakes a little too much so that it's
weird... and DESSERT (especially
warm chocolate chip cookies & anything chocolate!).
Favorite drink(s): Diet coke, chocolate soy
milk, dandy blend tea
Weird habits? I'll only divulge a couple... I check the alarm about 10 times after I set
it and I also set another alarm and I check that 10 times and
sometimes I can't really sleep because I am afraid neither one will
go off... I
freak out over any sort of buzzing noise near my head fearing it may
be some sort of flying bug. I think bugs sense my fear and so they
taunt me.
Hobbies and/or favorite thing(s) to do in your leisure time:
I spend about 90% of my time doing the behind the scenes band stuff
and practicing (I'm rather pathetic
that way, really). When I do allow myself to relax, I like to
hang out with friends and family, watch movies,
play Scrabble, walk outside (when it's
warm- I hate the cold), and work out.
Collect anything? No. I'm allergic to dust and
clutter makes me nervous...
All-time favorite artist/band(s), albums, songs: The
Beatles (all-time favorite album is Abbey Road), David Bowie (Ziggy
Stardust album), Ella Fitzgerald,
Nina Simone, Eva Cassidy, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Patti Rothberg, Aimee Mann (especially her stuff on the
Magnolia soundtrack), Shawn Colvin, Sheryl
Crow (except that god awful song she did with Kid Rock), The
Philosopher Kings, Maroon 5, Nikka Costa, Portishead, Coldplay, BB King, Bill
Withers, Lenny Kravitz, Hem, Sam Phillips, The Frames, Lourds... so many more...
Favorite artist/band(s) to see live: Paul McCartney
(cried through a bunch of it- that's a good thing), Tori Amos
(yep- cried again!), Ani DiFranco, B.B. King, & Nikka Costa.
First concert ever attended: Van Halen & Alice in
Chains.
Most embarrassing CD ever purchased: I own a Rick Astley CD (ouch) and I
own a Proclaimers CD (even though I know that
it's corny & clichéd and that I'm the ONLY one to ever buy the
CD!)
Favorite Movie(s): Breakfast at Tiffany's (Audrey Hepburn rocks),
Clue (okay, so this movie isn't "good"
but it reminds me of eating soup, rain, and my sister), Moulin Rouge,
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Favorite TV Show: The Mary Tyler Moore show, The
Muppet Show, Law and Order, Lost, 30 Rock., Psych
Favorite Book: Catcher in the Rye
Any other Favorite things/things you love: My amazing friends, Andy
Panda (my stuffed animal given to me by my dad when I was little),
animals, and foot rubs.
Favorite Muppet: Gonzo the Great
Favorite Star Wars Character: R2D2 and Chewbacca
Favorite Superhero: Wonder Woman and Superman
Favorite Villan: Villans are bad
Favorite Cartoon Charactor: Scooby Doo (the old
cartoon, not the sucky newer movie)
Your favorite sirsy song and why: This changes and
it's impossible to pick your favorite kid... but I guess,
"Still", "Leftover Girl", "Some Kind of Winter"
What, for you, is a good show and/or what is your favorite
thing about playing? Playing music is the only time I feel
completely free. I am really grateful that I get to do
it so often. So, even a bad show for me is still better than
the alternative (not playing music). I'm often blown away by
the positive
energy that comes from the audience and so touched when I see people singing along to our
songs and sincerely "feeling" the music in the crowd...
that's the best...
